I've updated the review from 1 to 2 stars because after leaving it Dexter contacted me and was very polite and seemed genuinely concerned about what had gone wrong. Although I can't give more stars as it honestly would have cost me 140,000 if I had taken their advice, I do respect him for that. My initial review is below:

I contacted ten Hoopen to sell a property after reading the amazing reviews but what a bizarre experience! I was told the property would be difficult to sell because of the awkward layout and the time of year, and was quoted 100,000€ less than similar properties I’d seen. I contacted Vila’s Key and one week later they sold the house for 140,000€ more before it even got advertised. I can only assume they thought it too cheap for their portfolio and wanted to deter me from engaging them… if not they have no idea about the local market.

Having never been to Portugal beforehand we were searching for properties into which we could relocate permanently. This could have been a precarious endeavor and fraught with risk since we’d be making the purchase online and from afar. The first purchase is under construction and we needed a completed house/address for the residency visa application. Dexter found a perfect and rentable affordable townhouse which had recently been completely redone and which is also ideally located making all of Lagos walkable. Dexter also assembled the necessary legal team to make the transaction proceed smoothly. This has been a 2-3 year process and we finally arrived in December of 2024. Upon arrival we were put in touch with house cleaners who have since become our regular weekly help. Before this, Dexter had put us in contact with an interior designer who thoroughly furnished the place to Turn-Key status down to kitchen silverware and bedroom linens. Dexter showed himself to be professional, trustworthy, knowledgeable and well-connected. We scored big!

I had enlisted João from Ten Hoopen as a listing agent after several months of no showings from other agents on my property. In a short time, he found a buyer and after we agreed on a price, he navigated me through a complex banking process ( solely on the buyers side) and brought the sale to it's conclusion.
I would recommend Ten Hoopen, and particularly João if you are looking to buy or sell in the Algarve.
